Our Values – Care, Respect, Culture, Impact
Women of color leaders deserve spaces that honor their unique embodiment of leadership, offering ways to reflect with care and respect for their lived experience and impact. We ask that you connect to your inner knowing to understand how you evolved to the leader you are today.
We invite leaders to participate in BTV who:
- Are women of color* leading from your intersectional experience
- Are or have been a founder, executive director or senior leader of a nonprofit social justice organization or group/effort
- Embody leadership and visions for the future that center and weave your race and gender lived experience intentionally
- Willing to think about, probe and uncover aspects of your leadership previously unspoken or shared widely with others (i.e. going deep)
- Committed to growth and increasing self-awareness
- Willing to share your lessons with others in the name of uplifting, nurturing others and inspiring other women of color
- Support social justice work and movements for liberation
- Are ready to experiment with writing and documenting their experiences – with no attachment to the outcome
- Would benefit from a low facilitation, low pressure self-guided space to write alongside others
- AND/OR are ready to take your writing to the next level and need support
- Agree with our community guidelines and BTV Values

Writing Sessions and Retreats
Behind the Veil hosts virtual and in person gatherings for women of color leaders to write together, share meals and reflect on your leadership journey. With the bonus of sharing space with other amazing women of color leaders across the social justice and nonprofit sector.
Our writing retreat spaces offer low pressure, low-facilitation, creative space for WOC to grow as storytellers, orators, and writers.
