Behind the Veil Resource Facilitator (Fundraiser)

Behind the Veil: Women, Race, and Leadership in the Nonprofit Social Justice Sector (BTV) is a multi-year, multi-platform project that is focused on connecting Women of Color executive directors, leaders and founders in the social justice nonprofit sector. The project gives Women of Color leaders space to explore and write about their leadership journeys. Activities and goals include a book, a card deck, fellowships, grants, speaking engagements, virtual and in person retreats and monitoring social media for communication and coordination. 

We are hiring for a fundraiser (resource facilitator) that will expand the capacity of the organization through grants, donors, other funding streams and overall fundraising strategy and planning. Ideal for consultants, contractors or those with flexible schedules.

Location: Los Angeles (mostly remote)
Weekly Hours: Up to 15 hours per week
Rate: Up to $30/hour or flat fee
Contractor position; temporary limited to 6 months

Role and Responsibilities

Project Management 

  • Develop and implement overall fundraising strategy and plan  
  • Develop goals, objectives and annual funding timeline for BTV growth and sustainability 
  • Coordinate meetings with team and project lead to move forward key project development objectives and seek input as needed

Funding Management 

  • Lead and manage outreach, communication, relationships with all current or prospective funding contacts, partners, donors 
  • Manage the status, reporting and compliance of all grants and funding relationships 
  • Coordinate with the fiscal sponsor, Social Good Fund on incoming grants and related funding needs 
  • Research, identify, and maintain database of funding opportunities that present viable funding potential and match goals and priorities.  
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities and grants; submit applications and proposals; write letters of inquiry and cover letters for grants; respond to grant requests, follow up and track outcomes
  • Create and maintain organized records, files, and databases, both in physical and digital formats 
  • Ensure confidentiality and accuracy of sensitive information

Communication

  • Communicate as needed for scheduling, clarity, regular meetings, follow up and coordination with team
     
  • Regular meetings with full BTV team an meetings with BTV support staff as needed
  • A bi-weekly or monthly call by phone or Zoom with Project Director to check in on project, needs and to dos
     
  • Proactively share updates on status of project fundraising

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in fundraising or development 
  • Network in the philanthropic community 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to meet fundraising goals 
  • Experience with grant writing and reporting 
  • Effective and timely researcher 
  • An organized organizer 
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships and communication with others 
  • Flexible and receptive to feedback
     
  • Completes goals and deliverables in a timely manner
     
  • Communicates proactively
     
  • Demonstrate understanding of social change in the nonprofit/philanthropic sector and in the impact of race and gender in social change
      
  • Serve as the lead driver and initiator of the project; think ahead to map projects and deadlines; plan, organize, and coordinate a variety of tasks and outcomes simultaneously
     
  • Understands and unapologetically supports critical race theory, Black liberation theory, Black feminist theory and movement/social change theories  
  • Understands the interconnectedness of liberation and importance of supporting communities organizing for liberation and impacted by white supremacy and imperialism, including but not limited to AAPI, Latinx, Indigenous, African, MENA peoples and movements 
     
  • Have developed a seasoned racial justice analysis and is committed to implementation through practice
